How Your Donation Helps

When you donate quality items to the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop, you help us support Ann Arbor's students.  The money earned from the resale of your unneeded clothing, jewelry, household goods, furniture, etc., goes to help AAPS schools and their PTOs support student participation in the enrichment and extra-curricular activities of clubs, teams, classes, and organizations.

Your donation also supports community recycling efforts and contributes directly to the local economy. The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop employs local residents and is an important shopping resource for our community and surrounding towns.  When you donate to us, you know that many others in our community will benefit.

We rely 100% on donations from the community.  We do not buy from bundlers or other charities. We recycle what we can not sell. Good, quality donations are essential to our effort.

To Donate Gently-Used Items

Please bring donations to the rear of the shop. There is a small parking area for your convenience.

We DO accept donations from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday; from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday; from 12-4 Sunday.

We love to get your donations, but can only take them if they are clean and dry and in working and usable condition, suitable for immediate resale.  Used clothing should be washed or dry-cleaned and in good repair.  

We DO NOT accept donations when it is raining or snowing due to the damage even small amounts of water can cause to items.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Please check the Acceptable Items page for guidelines on what we can or cannot take and resell or come in and browse the changing stock for ideas!  We may not be able to accept some items based on condition or suitability for sale in our shop. Thank-you for your understanding.

We gladly accept new, unused items, too! 

Yard sale items can be donated if in good condition.

Let us know if you are donating something fragile, or of particular value or collectibility. If your item has been appraised, please tell us.

Include any instructions or manuals -- buyers appreciate them!

Please bring us your clothing and sports gear, in season (spring/summer, fall/winter). Holiday items are also accepted. 

Delivering your items to us increases your donation’s value, by saving us gas and time charges. However, if you have large items of furniture and no means to drop them off, we are now providing free pick-up service in Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities of Dexter, Saline and Ypsilanti. Please call 734-996-9155 to schedule.

We gladly accept business donations!

If you are renovating your offices, moving your business, or liquidating merchandise, please consider donating to the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop.

Donating unsold, returned, or off-season merchandise, office furniture, or shop fixtures to the Thrift Shop is good for Ann Arbor's public school students, good for the environment, and a good business decision, too.

Save on liquidation or storage costs. You may even realize a tax benefit!

Donate to the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop Transportation Fund!  

Supporting enrichment transportation for AAPS students at every school.  

This fund provides much-needed financial support to Ann Arbor Public Schools, covering bus transportation expenses for enrichment activities at each and every AAPS building.  

In 2010-12, we gifted $6/student (amounting to just over $106,000) to AAPS through our Transportation Fund.  

In 2011-12, we gifted $100,000.  

And in August of 2012, we gifted another $100,000 to AAPS for 2012-13 through our Transportation Fund.  100% of all cash donations to our shop will be added to our Transportation Fund for the current school year (2012-13).  The Transportation Fund helps restore enrichment bus services to students -- enrichment (field trips, special events, sports, clubs and other co-curricular activities) transportation cut from the Ann Arbor Public School budget for the 2012-13 school year -- and restores it dollar-per-dollar.  

Every cash donation made supports enrichment bussing to AAPS students.

All monetary donations are itemized as Donation Income by the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop.   Applicable PayPal fees ONLY are deducted from donor contributions on a per transaction basis.
