Fundraising Activities

The fundraising program at the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop includes a variety of activities. 

Work together as a community to reach your fundraising goals.  These group-organized activities help the Thrift Shop by promoting the shop, bringing in donations, and providing other needed support.

Here's what groups can do:

• Show Your Support:  PTOs and clubs currently registered with the PTO Thrift Shop are invited to participate in the "Show Your Support" fundraising program.  Make a poster to showcase your group in the store.  Shoppers show their support by shopping and - for every $5 spent in the shop - dropping a token into your collection jar. Token totals at the end of each week determine the amount of funds your group receives.  We will showcase three groups per week this year so this is our biggest fundraising opportunity for your group - register NOW!  Contact our Fundraising Coordinator today for details, dates and poster specifications so your group can be a part of this exciting fundraising opportunity.

• Donation Drives:  Run a donation drive in your school or neighborhood to collect items for the shop.  We will schedule a date for your drive and provide pick-up.   2010-11 school year schedule is starting to be set now!  It will be posted shortly and updated regularly.  Contact our Fundraising Coordinator for details and to schedule a drive.
  

• Music & Munchies:  Provide music and/or refreshments in the shop on select Sundays.  Music & Munchies will be scheduled on Sunday afternoons this year.  Contact our Fundraising Coordinator for details or to book your group to perform.
  

• COMING SOON...  Ads 4 $:  Promote the shop in your school, PTO, team, group, or club publication by featuring one of our ads.   This promotional activity helps spread the word about the shop to your school community and is an easy way to earn funds for your group.  This is a new fundraising option we are developing.  Details coming soon!

• Fashion Shows in the Shop:  Put together fashionable outfits from Thrift Store merchandise in a "Project Runway-style" event.  Volunteer group organizes, promotes, and runs in-store fashion show.  Dates and themes by arrangement with Fundraising Coordinator.

• Parades Around Town: Build a PTO Thrift float or organize a marching group for us for the Jaycees 4th of July Parade or the Ann Arbor FestiFools Parade!  What a fun way to earn funds for your group!  Talk to our Fundraising Coordinate to volunteer your group to participate.

• Lost & Found Collection:  Groups collect, clean & thoroughly dry, and deliver to the Thrift Shop the contents of your school’s Lost & Found at the end of each semester.  Arrange with Fundraising Coordinator for drop off of these items.

Activities may change according to the needs of the shop.

How to participate

1. A representative of a school PTO, booster club, or organized club (president, PTO officer, fundraising chair, club faculty adviser, etc.) contacts our Coordinator, who will start a records sheet for your school PTO or other group.  The Coordinator will assist you with further information such as guidelines and fundraising amounts.
2. Your school PTO must have a PTO Thrift Shop representative (" a rep") to participate in our fundraising programs.  See  What's a rep?
3. For group fundraising activities, your group organizes the event by enlisting volunteers, publicizing the event in your school, and following the guidelines.
4. The Thrift Shop keeps track of the support activities performed by your PTO, clubs, or organizations.  Funds for all participation in our fundraising activities will be included for your school PTO on each payout date.
5. Clubs, trips, teams, activities are itemized in the payout report received by your school PTO treasurer to make distribution or crediting to various clubs or organizations simple and easy for you.
